…But Sameer does not heart Porto

Onwards, with our final day-and-a-half of Porto exploration!

Following our walking tour of the city, we walked the city a bit more, meeting up with some cats and other fantastical beasts of the city:

Our destination was Livraria Lello, aka ‘the most beautiful bookshop in the world’, and also one of the oldest in Portugal.

There was a fee to get in, and also a queue.

While some of the fee to enter can be used to buy a book, it is of course carefully managed so that all of the books are quite overpriced, and nothing can be bought without shelling out quite a bit of extra cash.

Still, it was certainly impressive inside, if a bit overcrowded with people.

Worth a look for sure, but not somewhere I’d go back to.

We did a bit more walking, before settling down for a mixed meal….

… and walking through the now-much-quieter streets of Porto back to our Hotel.

Day Two began with hipster coffee and breakfast….

… the continuation of a relatively new Postcards For Alice tradition….

… and a bit of wandering in delicious sunlight.

Spring, which had not yet made it to the small island, had very much Sprung in Portugal.

Of course, we had to make a quick stop for some more pastel de nata…

which I ate with what I assume is the normal excessive amounts of cinnamon.

(Sameer didn’t want any on his???!!! Definitely a deviant).

And then, we walked across the Douro river to the other side of Porto, as recommended by my colleague who is a real live Portuguese person.

Which, I think, was also very very pretty.

We mostly just wandered a bit in the sun, stopping by some markets only briefly to stare at some sardines…

We walked roughly west along the shore, before hopping on the cable car to travel back east.

Apart from Sameer threatening to jump out mid-air (potentially provoked by me wanting to pretend to propose to him when they took our photo), it was a generally calm and beautiful ride.

And that was basically it for Porto…

We poked our tongue out at some cats…

Saw some more art…

And then headed back to the small grey Isle.
