….and a goanna, two snakes, a lion, and a couple of honey eaters.
I haven’t shared any Nest updates in a while, and it’s been quite some months now since I moved.
Let’s start easy with the smallest (?) room of the house.
Anyway. My new flat’s bathroom was very narrow and plain.
So narrow in fact, that I didn’t really manage to take proper photos before moving in, except to show that it looks a bit like this:

Most importantly though, it came with a Window.
So of course, there can be plants!

And also a mobile.
And also a tiger.
Because the basic rule of my home decoration is that every room (and corridor) must have at least one (1) tiger, one (1) mobile and (more than 1) plant.

It’s been pretty interesting to see my plants respond to the new flat. The Barbican- where I lived before- was overly warm, with floor heating which literally crisped the leaves even when there was water in the soil.
This little cactus, who has remained mostly 2-D and long his whole life, has suddenly decided to pick up some juiciness.

Meanwhile, the Calethea near the tiger loves his new light and temperature situation- and has put out a TONNE of new leaves this last summer. But also definitely should not be near a window nor flapping his leaves outside the flat. All his leaf edges are burnt, but I’m interested to note that the new growth is also pretty low-to-the-ground, so maybe he’s adapting already?
The shower also has a hoya, pretending it’s clinging to a nice tree, and asparagus, and an xx
Probably a fourth unspoken rule is that most of my rooms also have something that reminds me of my places. Some Australia, some Berlin, some London. And of course, lots and lots of photos of all the people who make places homes.
These are some beautiful Australian New Holland honey eaters, perched on top of some banksias. The wooden lizard/goanna is and Aboriginal wooden sculpture. Back with my ex we named him Bangy, which is short for buncarra, one of the words commonly used across Western Australian Aboriginal language to indicate a sand goanna.

Stepping back we see the snakes- which I bought in order to bring some colour into my depressing windowless Barbican Bathroom.
And of course the lion. Part of a set of two bags I bought in Taiwan, which I now use for separating laundry.

Of course, the Star of the Show is my Monstera:

It struggled a bit with the move and post-move chaos, and some of the older leaves are a bit yellow around the edges. But it also seems to have happily added some new leaves and a few extra shoots in the past months.
The Monstera is sitting in a beautiful pot that my mum rescued from a skip bin the first week in Walthamstow. And clustered with some pottery I made back while I lived in the suburb.
The furniture it’s sitting on is also a Bar Cart I found on the streets in the Stow, which I brought back and initially used for kitchen storage in Walthamstow, then used to add extra ‘pantry space’ in the Barbican. Now, my kitchen is a bit too tiny, but the bathroom came with zero storage. So I was delighted to see that it fit nearly perfectly in the space.
You might also notice my new-to-me crocodile towels poking out there. And the flannel hanging behind has a cheeky little crow collecting coathangers (Kusubashi Monori Morita). Somewhere, in another country, he has an octopus friend.
The one thing you can’t see from that point of view is that the entrance also has some photos of ice, from my Iceland trip two years ago.

And that’s it. That’s the once-white bathroom that’s now filled with colours and animals.

Photos from Sept 2026.
